On the 25th of August 2018 my husband Sam and I, along with our one and a half year old daughter Billie, departed Melbourne International Airport destined for Cumberland, BC, Canada.

Our route took us via Auckland, New Zealand before landing at Vancouver International Airport. After running across the (enormous) airport with our luggage and a jet-lagged but bemused toddler, we boarded the small twin engine airplane which took us across the water to Vancouver Island.

Why did we sell nearly everything we owned, and decided to start a new life in Canada? With a toddler in tow?! We want our daughter to grow up with the knowledge that big changes aren’t something to be feared. To know when she sees opportunities in life she can take them. Sam and I saw how we could make our lives better – so we went for it.

Nearly four months later and we’re head over heels in love with our rainy, misty, mountainous surroundings. And we’re lucky enough to live in a village that adores and actively protects its surrounding forest.

Our adventure has just begun, and I can’t wait to share it.
